There are 3 general requirements that anyone wishing to enter Vietnam since January 1st, 2022 must follow:

  • You must have RT-PCR tested negative for the novel coronavirus within the previous 72 hours between the time of testing and the border crossing (not applicable to children under 2).

  • You have to install the PC-COVID app for health monitoring.

You may belong to one of the following 4 groups:

You are fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19

A document by the Ministry of Health said that entrants with proper certificates to show that they have been fully vaccinated with the last dose given between 14 days and 12 months before arrival would need to self-isolate for 3 days only, either at home, hotels, or other facilities.

You will be tested on the 3rd day. If the results are negative, you will be required to monitor your own health for the next 11 days, free to move around, but required to avoid large gatherings or crowded places.

The same regulation applies to anyone who was infected with Covid-19 and has certificates to prove that they have recovered from it within the last six months.

You have not been vaccinated or not fully vaccinated yet

In case you have not fully vaccinated or you have not been injected yet, you will be quarantined at home or in other facilities for 7 days.

You will be tested on the 3rd and 7th days. If the results are negative, you will be required to monitor your own health until the end of 14 days;

You are Vietnamese and have not been vaccinated yet

The Health Ministry emphasized that in case the arrivals are Vietnamese citizens and their relatives (including spouses, children) who have not been vaccinated yet or not fully vaccinated, they will be vaccinated (free of charge) during the quarantine period (if eligible).

You are not capable of quarantining by yourself

Those under 18 years old (children), people aged 65 years or older (elderly people), pregnant women, people with underlying medical conditions can be quarantined with a parent/ caretaker. Caregivers must be fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19 and must sign a commitment to voluntarily self-isolate after being explained about the risks of Covid-19 infection. Both arrivals and caretakers must strictly comply with the requirements on testing and regulations on prevention and control of the Covid-19.

According to the Ministry of Health, depending on the pandemic situation, the time and form of quarantine will be adjusted accordingly. This new regulation does not apply to those who have entered Vietnam and are in quarantine or medical monitoring before the date of this official announcement.
